The seminar aims to engage participants in analysing language usage by different media from a cultural, social and linguistic perspective. Students will learn about the distinctive pragmatic and semantic features of media language and thereby will explore how journalists write media content and attract their targeted audiences. We will examine various text types from television, radio and print media as well as from different media genres including news and advertisement. In addition, we will look at how accelerated globalisation affects media language and how English lexical items are used by the German media.
