Course content

Introduction to Literary Studies II a will provide students with an accessible and comprehensive “overview” of literature. Systematically taking in theory, genre and other literary topics, we will cover easy-to-understand descriptions of a variety of approaches to texts. This course includes sections on fiction, poetry, drama, film and more, covering a range of theoretical approaches and major literary and cinematic terms.

Introduction to Literary Studies II a is a continuation to Introduction to Literary Studies I. The aim of this course is to help students gain the skills necessary in the analysis and interpretation of a literary text. Students will first be introduced to major literary theory that will help them analyse a literary text both in class and at home. At the end of the summer term, it is expected that students will be able to independently analyse and interpret a literary text from a critical perspective.

Primarily tackling unique themes and concepts of fiction, drama, film and, at times, other related topics, students are encouraged to learn the basic principles, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of literary texts. Specific examples will then highlight the importance of taking a closer look at what makes analysing literary texts so fascinating.

Carefully chosen examples which make the subject easier to understand and highlight specific themes and concepts: to be announced (in class).
