Intended learning outcomes

The aim of this course, which is a continuation to Introduction to Literary Studies I (a,b), is to help students gain the skills necessary in the analysis and interpretation of a literary text (i.e. a novel, short story, poem, a play) in the light of literary theory. To this end, students will first be introduced to the major literary and cultural theory that will help them analyse a literary text within a theoretical frame. Following this, selected literary texts will be analysed in class, with focus on one critical literary theory. At the end of the course, it is expected that students will be able to analyse and interpret a literary text from a critical perspective independent of any teacher guidance.

The class will be conducted through lectures, class discussions and pair/group work.
