Intended learning outcomes
This course is parallel to the main lecture and covers most of its topics. By the end of the course the student will acquire different skills and methodologies to solve simple problems related to signal processing and communication systems.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Recap of what has been taught in the lecture. Different assignments to be solved at home and handed in before the exam.
Course content
Basics of the theory of signals:
- Definition and properties of a signal. Signal transformations. Most common signals
- Fourier series and Fourier transform
- Convolution
- Unified theory of signals
Basics of communications:
- Structure of a communication system
- Basic analog transmission schemes (DSB, SSB, AM, FM)

Examination methodology
Assignments and written test + possible final oral interview.
Examination topic(s)
Assignments will be given throughout the course based on the exercises and material presented during the course.
Assignments have to be handed in before the final written exam.
Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations
Assignments: 30%
Written test: 70%
It is required to achieve a passing grade both in assignments (overall) and final written test to obtain a positive mark.
