Intended learning outcomes
Die Studierenden erwerben Grundkenntnisse zu den verschiedenen literarischen Textsorten und lernen, Fachbegriffe zur strukturellen und formalen Analyse literarischer Texte durch selbständige Interpretation anzuwenden.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Vermittlung von theoretischem Fachwissen durch Lehrenden sowie Anwendung des Wissens durch praktische Medienanalyse und Diskussion.
Course content
In der Vorlesung werden Strategien und Terminologien für die Analyse und Interpretation literarischer Texte vorgestellt, die grundlegend für das Studium der Anglistik und Amerikanistik sind. Die Themen beinhalten Lyrik, Drama, Prosa, Film, graphic novel, Intermedialität, Intertextualität, narrative Kommunikation, rhetorische Stilmittel, literarische Figuren und Charakterisierung, wissenschaftliche Interpretationsstrategien.
Literature
Sekundärliteratur und weiterführende Texte werden in der der ersten Sitzung bekanntgegeben.
Die Studierenden werden angehalten, die folgenden Werke in Buchform für die entsprechende Sitzung zur Verfügung zu haben:
William Shakespeare: Macbeth (Arden edition)
David Lodge: Nice Work (1988)
Intended learning outcomes
Students get acquainted with basic features of literary genres and learn to apply essential terminology for formal and structural analysis of iterary texts.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Lecture input as well as practical exercises and in-class discussions.
Course content
The lecture gives an overview of essential terminology relevant for the literary study programme at the Department of English. Improve your skills in analysing and interpreting different media formats.
Topics include poetry, drama, prose fiction, film, graphic novels, intermediality, intertextuality, narrative communication, rhetorical figures, characters and characterisation, academic reading strategies.
Literature
Secondary texts will be announced in the first session.
Students ought to purchase the following texts in advance:
William Shakespeare's Macbeth (Arden edition)
David Lodge's Nice Work (1988)

Die Vorlesung endet mit einer schriftlichen Klausur.

Die Klausur beinhaltet zentrale Themen der Vorlesung.
Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations
30% der Klausur bestehen aus Multiple Choice-Fragen, 30% der Fragen sind offen zu beantworten, und 40% der Klausur setzen sich aus der essayistischen Auseinandersetzung mit einem der zentralen Primärtexte der Vorlesung zusammen.

Written exam at the end of the course.

Students are expected to correctly apply the terminology of the thematic fields correctly. The written exam will include 30% multiple choice as well as 30% open questions on core contents of the lecture sessions. It will also include a 40% essay question dealing with one of the primary texts discussed in class.
