Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Lernen Sie die grundlegende Terminologie für Ihr literarisches Studium am Fachbereich Englisch kennen. Verstehen Sie, was es bedeutet, Texte wissenschaftlich zu lesen und wie eine zentrale Methodik zur Analyse und Interpretation literarischer Werke angewandt wird. Erweitern Sie Ihr Verständnis verschiedener Medienformate, von Lyrik und Prosa bis hin zu Film, Videospielen und Grafikromanen. Üben Sie Ihre Fähigkeiten in Diskussionen und angewandter Analyse während des Semesters und erkunden Sie den einzigartigen historischen und soziokulturellen Hintergrund jedes besprochenen Kunstwerks.
Am Ende des Semesters verfügen Sie über ein akademisches Kernvokabular und grundlegende Einblicke in die Forschungsmethoden der Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften, um sich für weitere Studiengänge zu stärken.

Inhalt/e
Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick über die für die Anglistik und Amerikanistik relevanten Kernfelder und die notwendigen Konzepte, um diese adäquat zu diskutieren und zu analysieren. Nach einer Einführung in akademische Lesestrategien werden die folgenden Bereiche und spezifischen Terminologien behandelt:
Poesie
Drama
Kurzgeschichten
Prosa
Graphische Romane
Film
Videospiele
Die zu diskutierenden Arbeiten werden so ausgewählt, dass sie eine breite Palette von Bereichen repräsentieren, die für die Veranstaltung kulturell relevant sind (z.B. britische, US-amerikanische, irische Literaturen) oder eine relevante Position in der Migrations- oder Grenzkultur einnehmen.
Literatur
Die Vorlesung bezieht ihre Inhalte und Definitionen verschiedener Autoren, Texte und akademischer Wörterbücher. Kürzere Texte und sekundäre Quellen werden bei Bedarf auf Moodle zur Verfügung gestellt.
Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Learn the essential terminology for your literary study programme at the department of English. Understand what it means to read texts academically and how central methodology is applied to analyse and interpret literary works. Expand your understanding to different media formats, ranging from poetry and prose to film, video games, and graphic novels. Practice your skills in discussions and applied analysis throughout the semester and explore the unique historical and sociocultural background of each discussed artwork.
At the end of the semester, you will possess an academic core vocabulary and foundational insights in the research methods of literature and culture studies to bolster yourself for subsequent courses.

Inhalt/e
This lecture gives students an overview of core fields relevant to English and American Studies and the necessary concepts to discuss and analyse them adequately. After an introduction to academic reading strategies, it discusses the following fields and specific terminologies:
- Poetry
- Drama
- Short stories
- Prose
- Graphic Novels
- Film
- Video Games
The works to be discussed will be selected to represent a broad array of fields that are culturally relevant to the seminar (i.e. of British, US American, Irish literatures) or hold a relevant position in migration- or border-culture)
Literatur
The lecture draws its content and definitions from various core authors, texts and academic dictionaries. Shorter texts and secondary sources are provided on Moodle as necessary.

Prüfungsinhalt/e
Die schriftliche Prüfung besteht aus zwei Teilen:
1) Multiple-Choice-Fragen zu den Kerninhalten der Vorlesungen
2) Aufsatzfrage zu einem der im Kurs behandelten Kerntexte

Aufsatz-Frage: 55%

The written exam will consist of two sections:
