Intended learning outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the culture of presenting scientific work at international conferences
- Compose a successful conference proposal
- Construct and deliver a poster presentation
- Construct and deliver an oral presentation
- Constructively evaluate presentation quality
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Weekly seminars involving audio-visual presentations by the instructor, discussion ofarticles and resources, and student presentations.
Course content
Academic presentations are a cornerstone of scientific communication. Drawing on theory, research, and practical examples, students will learn how to construct and deliver high-quality academic presentations.
In this seminar, students will apply their knowledge to a series of assignments that simulate key steps in the process of presenting scientific work at international conferences (e.g., responding to a call for proposals, giving poster and oral presentations, providing constructive feedback).
Practical in focus, this course will emphasize presentation skill development, the use of evidence-based strategies for engaging audiences, and tips for conveying information accurately and persuasively.

Students will be given evaluation schemes for each of the course assignments in advance of their due date.
Examination topic(s)
Students will complete course assignments on the topic of their bachelor thesis or an alternative research project they have been involved with.
