Intended learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to give students an understanding of the major literary genres with focus on the similarities and differences between each. Representative primary texts to each major literary genre will be discussed and analysed in class for further practice. These texts will be announced by the lecturer in the beginning of the semester.
At the end of this course, students will have an understanding of the dynamics of each of the literary genres they will have studied, will gain practice in the analysis of a literary text and will have been familiarised with the analysis of media genres.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
The class will be conducted through lectures, class discussions and group work. Each student will give a 5-10 minute presentation on an assigned topic. (e.g. introducing a literary genre, a literary movement, etc.)

B. Introduction to major literary forms:
1. PROSE as a literary genre
a. forms of fiction: e.g. the short story, novella, novel, myth
b. forms of non-fiction: e.g. biography, diary, journal, essay
2. POETRY as a literary genre and the elements of poetry
3. DRAMA as a literary genre and the elements of drama
4. MEDIA GENRES and their analysis
