Intended learning outcomes

Die Studierenden verstehen die ethischen Implikationen des Arbeitens in der Medienindustrie; sie können ethische Konzepte auf konkrete moralische Dilemma-Situationen anwenden; sie verstehen die Verbindungen zwischen Medienökonomie, Medienmanagement und Medienethik; sie erhalten Analysetools  um die komplexen normativen Fragen von Fairness und Gerechtigkeit in der Medienwelt zu diskutieren und lernen das multidimensionale Konzept der "Verantwortung" von Medienunternehmen und Medienpolitik zu verstehen.

Theorieinputs, Arbeitsgruppen im Seminar, Präsentation und Diskussion von Seminararbeiten.

Lehrziel

                        Der Kurs gibt eine Einführung in die Medienethik und Wirtschaftsethik und betrachtet kommunikationsethische Fragen unter ökonomischen und philosophischen Gesichtspunkten.

Intended learning outcomes

Students understand the ethical implications of working in the media industry; they can apply ethical concepts to concrete moral dilemma situations; they understand the interconnections of media economics, media management, and media ethics; they get analytic tools for discussing difficult normative questions of fairness and justice in the media world and learn to understand the multifaceted concept of "responsibility" of media companies and media politics.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Theoretical inputs, group works in class, presentations and discussions of seminar papers.

Lehrziel

 The course wants to give a comprehensive introduction to media ethics and business ethics and provides an economic and philosophical viewpoint to communication ethical issues.

Written seminar paper 

Examination topic(s)

Seminar paper (20 pages net) based on theoretical inputs in class, literature (Stephen Ward: Media Ethics), and journal papers.

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

Grading is based on class participation (40%) and a seminar paper (60%).
