Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
English for Computing is a language driven by the development of technologies that are changing the nature of human interaction in our society, and across the world. The ability to participate in this development, to make oneself understood first and foremost, but increasingly the ability to describe the abstract concepts that underpin these developments, require strong language skills and clear attention to language accuracy.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Student-generated content (paired conversations) is the source of recognising a need for technical terms or a particular aspect of grammar. Reporting on the conversations presents them to the full group, where they are discussed.
Personal statements - short summaries of common topics in computing - are a written, more formal version of the coversations.
Reading academic papers is the final skills focus in the course.
