Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Upon successful completion of this course, students will
- become familiar with the basic terminology of literary analysis
- define and identify a number of theoretical approaches to literary narratives
- be able to explain and employ in close readings of Anglophone texts (i.e., poems, novels, plays, etc.)
- develop an awareness and appreciation of the academic study of literary narratives
Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools
This course has been designed for first semester students to familiarize them with the various tools that facilitate the study of literary expression in English, from critical frameworks to close reading techniques.
To pass the course successfully, students will need to take short course quizzes at the beginning of each session (starting in week 2). In addition to that, they will be asked to write a critical (1,500 words) essay based on topics related to the texts discussed in class.

Prüfungsinformationen
Prüfungsmethode/n
pillar 1: active participation (20%)
pillar 2: short quizzes at the beginning of each session (20%): The questions will be based on the readings assigned for this week.
pillar 3: 1200-1500 words essay (60%). Deadline for the paper is 15 February 2017.
Students will need to achieve passing grades IN ALL THREE PILLARS of assessment in order to receive a passing grade.
All instances of plagiarism, regardless of their extent, will result in automatic fail grade for the entire class.

- the quizzes will show that students have acquired basic understanding of the contents of the assigned readings
- the essay will show that students have acquired a basic understanding of the literary and cultural theories discussed in class and that they can apply them to a texts of their choice.
