Intended learning outcomes
Students will have acquired a basic historical understanding of the varieties of English and of its phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical peculiarities.Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
The course will take the form of lectures plus an application-oriented part, i.e. the contents presented in the lectures will be practised by using a variety of texts Old English: (Poetic texts: Beowulf: Opening lines, ship-burial, Beowulf´s fight with Grendel, swimming match with Breca; Old English Riddle; Prose texts: translation of the Bible: the Creation; Anglo-Saxon Laws, Medical texts; Ohthere`s voyage to the Baltic (funderal rites in Estland) ; Middle English: Geoffrey Chaucer`s Canterbury Tales (parts of General Prologue; Nuns`Priest´s Tale, Reeve`s Tale)Distance learning info
