Conditions of admission

Prior knowledge expected

Praxissemester bereits absolviert

Literature

Im eLearning System MOODLE abgelegte Artikel (Pflichtliteratur) sowie: Humphrey Watts S.: "Managing the Software Process", Addisson Wesley, 1989 (empfohlen)

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Lectures before a highly interactive auditorium, student interventions and presentations, experiment.

Course content

This course allows students to reflect the diverse experiences they have gained during the extramural “Applications Lab” (“Praxissemester”) in various professional environments on the basis of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). This reflection includes to find interpretations of CMM- recommendations directly applicable to large software houses for local, small scale “software huts”. The focus of discussion rests on the transition from CMM level 1 to CMM level 3 with outlooks for levels 4 and 5. Relationships between CMM and the ISO-9000 series are identified. Likewise, SPICE (now ISO 15.504) and BOOTSTRAP is discussed. Teaching in this class is done in a highly interactive style to allow students to present the different experiences they made during the extramural “Praxissemester.” The process-focussed discussions are supplemented by in-depth seminar-like group-presentations on software engineering topics of current interest. The topics of these presentations are proposed by students. Students are also provided with the opportunity to manage a software development project via the AMEISE-Simulator

Topics

  • Process maturity
  • Process assessment
  • Planning software development projects
  • Software development cultures
  • Process change
  • Current topics in systems- and software engineering

Teaching objective

To appreciate the aspects of a professionally lead software development organization. To reflect on recommendations to be found in related publication on the experience gained in internships or at other occasions.

Prior knowledge expected

"Praxissemester" already successfully terminated or any related experience in professional software development.
