Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course the learner will/should be able to 1. Demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of technical, economical and environmental parameters and variables related to renewable energy systems design. 2. Identify steps and data required to perform a structured analysis when designing energy systems and services. 3. Demonstrate awareness of relevant simulation software tools. 4. Perform system modeling, simulation and analysis using MATLAB, HOMER, TRNSYS and RETScreen software. 5. Model, Source and convert weather data for various locations. 6. Simulate and compare renewable energy system design alternatives in various climate conditions and applications. 7. Describe and define energy system optimization goals and constraints to find the best system solution. 8. Show awareness of the state of the art renewable energy system modeling and optimization tools.Course content
This module will focus on methodologies and tools for renewable energy systems modeling and simulation. They can be used to evaluate/estimate functional performance in order to achieve optimum system sizing and integration. This will include: tools for energy supply modeling; performing energy system design simulation and analysis; hands on simulation and analysis software tools (i.e. HOMER, TRNSYS, RETScreen); understanding climate and weather data sources and formats; optimum energy system design selection including advanced intelligent optimization.Topics
