Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of the seminar, students will be able to
- identify basic models and principles of ICC and transculturality
- explain the educational value of literature (e.g. ICC, possible worlds, simulation thinking, empathy, etc.)
- describe the process-oriented approach (and its individual functions) to teaching literature
Teaching methodology
This seminar will implement the teaching and learning cycle to familiarize students with genres of teaching ICC through literature. This will involve teacher presentations and modeling/scaffolding, class discussions, small group work, as well as individual and small group presentations.
Course content
The content of this course may include but is not limited to the following topics
- Models of ICC and transculturality
- Learning through reading literature - language, literacy, possible world theory, simulations thinking, identity and empathy
- Methods of literary (and other narratibe media) and intercultural teaching and learning
- Lesson planning and task/activity design
- Evaluation & assessment - tools and principles

Examination information
Examination methodology
Final Exam: open questions, will occur on the final session of the seminar. Time in class will be spent preparing for exam questions.
Learning Portfolio: will consist of three assignments - reflection on seminar content, documentation of ability (3 activities of choice taken from in-session assignment) and self assessment.
Active Participation: This means being attentive in class, regularly asking qualitative content-related questions, and participating in activities during the session.
Examination topic(s)
The content of the final exam will come from the readings and session activities and input. The open questions will derive from focus questions that will accompany each reading. Time will be set aside to amply prepare students for the exam.
Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations
Of the final grade,
10% will consist of active participation
30% of the learning portfolio assignments
60% of the final exam
