LV-Beschreibung
Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Students are given insights into potential research topics in English and American studies, as well as exposure to academic research methodologies and core theories in the disciplines of linguistics, literary and cultural studies. This inspires them to identify and approach their own MA thesis research project.
Lehrmethodik
Interactive lectures and plenary discussions.
Inhalt/e
The Research Colloquium introduces new MA students to the main research areas represented at the Department of English and American Studies. After a general introductory session by the organisers to provide the necessary framework, subsequent specific sessions are held by different staff members working at the Department to give participants detailed insight into various potential research topics in the areas of linguistics, literary and cultural studies. In the final two sessions, students individually present their impressions on the areas covered as well as personal points of connection and interest they can see themselves develop into their MA project. In a final Response Paper they then develop one possible thesis topic in more detail.
Literatur
All required literature will be made available via Moodle and individual guidance given by instructors should need be.
