Intendierte Lernergebnisse

By the end of this seminar, students should be able to 

1)      Name and summarize the dominant theories (educational, cultural, media) that underlie each topic (see “Inhalte”)

2)      Relate topics and theoriesto EFL educational goals and explain how they address social and culturalchallenges and opportunities

3)      Apply them to their own teaching by drafting proposals for action research

  • Collaborative and individual learning
  • Guided reflection
  • Moodle tools for file sharing, group formation, feedback provision, discussion of issues and collaborative work on documents

Inhalt/e

  • graphic novels – including subtopics like language skills, visual literacy, narrative competence, literary genre and inter- and transcultural communicative competence
  • digital media literacy – including subtopics like discourse on digital global players, interaction vs. interactivity, AI/AR/VR, algorithmicity, learning about media and media supported language learning
  • education for sustainable development – including subtopics like sustainable development goals, norm flows (from UN to curricula), global (citizenship) education and modelling ESD competency

Based on the ideas of action research, students will develop plans to integrate teaching of all three topics listed above in their EFL classes (in the academic genre of a research proposal). Within the framework of action research, these plans utilize research methods of question raising, data collection and analysis (reflection) on results in order to develop the positive habit of creating feedback loops for professional development while teaching.
