LV-Beschreibung
Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Applying the concepts of both combinational and sequential logic to design basic logical circuits to implement simulations for arithmetic and combinational circuits.
Lehrmethodik
Modus is
- a fluent mix of lecture-like in-class teaching
- solving of exercises that are provided on exercise sheets together and at home
- requesting participants to actively contribute / solve exercises in-class
- working with simulation software to implement, analyze and test simulations of logical circuits
Inhalt/e
This course goes hand in hand with the lecture “Design of digital Circuits” and repeats and deepens the topics. The focus lies on practically working on problems involving Boolean Algebra, optimizing digital circuits and logical expressions as well as working with finite state machines. Students get a hands-on-training in understanding logical problems, designing and implementing an appropriate solution and testing the solution against correctness.
Topics are:
- Boolean Algebra, Logic Standard Forms, Transformation of Boolean equations
- Minimization and optimizing of logical circuits
- Design of combinational circuits
- Design of sequential circuits
- Working with a simulation tool to implement and test logical circuits
Prüfungsinformationen
Prüfungsmethode/n
- Written exam at the end of the course
- Closed books exam
- 75 minutes
Prüfungsinhalt/e
Exam covers all topics of this course.
Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
This course demands a continuous assessment of course work. As such, students are required to continuously participate, contribute and submit exercises they receive through the course of the semester.
In particular:
- Attendance is mandatory
- Contributions during the course count
- Checklists for exercises / solutions
- Two larger practical exercises (lab-units) with separate grading
- Exam is graded with points
To pass this course, the final exam must be positively graded and a minimum number of points from the assessments from the whole course throughout the semester must be received. Detailed information on that will be shared in the initial course unit.
