Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
In the first part of this course students will be introduced to central approaches to literary studies. Here, attention will be drawn to the discussion of poetry and film. As for the latter, our discussion will build around the film "Dead Poets Society". In the second part the focus is on narrative texts (short stories) and narratological concepts. The main objective of this course is to introduce first-year students to different literary genres, research fields and literary traditions in Anglophone literary studies.
Teaching methodology
Lectures and group discussion.

(1) What is literature? (2) Anglophone literatures: A historical perspective; (3) Working with Poems, films and short stories; (4) Socio-cultural approaches to literature; (5) Literature as a developing concept: Future perspectives.
