Intendierte Lernergebnisse
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Give an overview of what Human Resource Management (HRM) is all about
- Appreciate the skills and knowledge required by HRM specialists and others undertaking HRM responsibilities within organizations.
- Understand the range of roles, activities, and processes included in Human Resource Management.
- Acquire an understanding of the MNE (multinational enterprise) perspective of international HRM.
- Know the role of Human Resource Management and the HR profession in delivering fair, ethical, responsible, and sustainable organizations.
- Develop strategies associated with Human Resource Management.
- Refine your critical thinking and communication skills.
Lehrmethodik
Blocked sessions with the following outline:
- 1/2 lecture with interactive content
- 1/2 work in groups/individually on topics discussed in the lecture
Participation in the first session is mandatory to be enrolled in the course!
Inhalt/e
A comprehensive introduction to Human Resource Management for students who are new to the field, in terms of both academic research and practice. As such, students are provided with key definitions, an outline of the historical development of the field, the potential roles of Human Resource Management and Human Resource professionals in organizations, and the key contextual factors that may influence these roles and practices.
This course is broken down into three parts covering:
- Strategic Issues in Human Resource Management,
- Human Resource Management in Practice and
- Human Resource Management in Context
The various theories, practices, and debates that populate this field are examined, and the challenges and controversies that arise when theory meets practice are explored. The international dimension including cross-cultural working, diversity, equality, and international business are considered throughout.
Practical learning features are included to help students develop skills they can apply to their course and in graduate employment.
International case studies of well-known companies are included to broaden students´ learning and combine theory with real-life application.
The course will draw on current issues reported in the media as well as cases, and journal article readings.

Prüfungsmethode/n
To finish the course by the end of the semester, you can collect points in various forms of participation, as stated below.
- 10% Participation & Presence
- 40% Written Assignment
- 30% Individual Quizzes
- 20% Case Analyses/Group Tasks
The minimum requirement to complete the course is 61%
A detailed overview will be given in the first session of the lecture.

Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
The following performance criteria need to be met in order to successfully complete the courses classified as “Vorlesungs-Kurs” (VC):
- Participation (a minimum of 80% during classes, in any case during the first session)
- Partial performance (meeting the respective deadlines, sufficiency of the task)
- Submitting final assignments, homework, seminar papers, etc., within the communicated deadline
In case any of the above-mentioned performance criteria are not met throughout the semester, the course will be evaluated negatively with immediate effect, and students will need to retake the course.
