Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

  • Learning about machine learning and its application on smart systems and communications
  • learning about HW and or SW aspects, as complexity, latency, robustness,  etc.
  • Improving programming skills using Python, or C, or Matlab
  • Improve hands-on-experience learning
  • Get introduced to literature research
  • Improve presentation and writing skills

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

  • The student will be given an assignment/small project on one of the topics after discussion and joint selection to match student background and interest. 
  • The project can be about  analysis/simulation, or programming, or prototyping.  
  • Weekly meetings will be arranged to track activity and provide support.

Course content

  • Selected topic in the domain of communication systems: algorithms, protocols, 5G, localization, power line communications, information theory. 
  • Selected topics in smart systems: smart homes, smart grids, smart cars.
  • Selected topics in robotics: UAV, mechanical systems, industry automation.

Prior knowledge expected

Prior knowledge in at least one of the following domains:

  • Programming
  • System modeling / control
  • Communication systems
  • Signal processing
  • Machine learning
  • Circuits and systems
  • Robotics
