Intended learning outcomes

Umfang: Das dreiteilige Modul umfasst 12 ECTS-Punkte (jeweils 6 ECTS im WS und SS) und erstreckt sich über zwei Semester (jeweils 3 SWS im Winter- und Sommersemester). Die drei LVs werden geblockt angeboten.

SD Teil I (6 ECTS, Wintersemester):
Führen eines Lerntagebuches, Essay in welchem eine Forschungsfrage im Team erarbeitet wird, welche im Sommersemester beantwortet werden kann.

SD Teil II & III (4 & 2 ECTS, Sommersemester):
Durchführen eines kleinen Forschungsprojekts und verarbeiten der Ergebnisse für das entsprechende Praxisfeld, Umsetzung der Erkenntnisse in Form eines Spiels

Das Rahmenthema ist „Sustainable mobility - more than (a) movement?“. Die StudentInnen können für sie interessante und relevante Themen- bzw. Fragestellungen rund um das Thema Nachhaltigkeit bzw. nachhaltige Entwicklung frei wählen. Im Zuge der Bearbeitung ist allerdings ein Bezug zum Rahmenthema herzustellen.

Course content

Das Thema der diesjährigen Lehrveranstaltung ist „Sustainable mobility - more than (a) movement?“. Mobilität spielt eine anhaltend wichtige Rolle in unserem Leben und ist signifikant für den globalen Energieverbrauch und Co2-Ausstoß mitverantwortlich. Wenn man Verfügbarkeit, Individualität, und zuletzt in der Corona-Krise auch noch Sicherheit mit einbezieht, wird es schnell klar, dass Zero Emission Mobility nicht so einfach umsetzbar ist. Es sind viele Aspekte zu berücksichtigen und abzuwägen, wir haben ein "wicked Problem". In der Vorlesung „Sustainability“ werden wir dieses Thema selbst in die Hand nehmen, um zu sehen, welche Maßnahmen nützlich sind und welches Wissen erforderlich ist, um ein reibungsloses Zusammenspiel von Technologie und Gesellschaft für eine nachhaltige Zukunft zu ermöglichen.

In dieser über zwei Semester abgehaltenen Lehrveranstaltung wird durch innovative Lehr- und Lernsettings sowie durch einen starken Forschungs- und Praxisbezug den Studierenden die Idee der nachhaltigen Entwicklung aus Sicht unterschiedlicher Disziplinen und aus der Praxis nähergebracht. Es werden dazu erforderliche Theorien, Kompetenzen und Methoden vermittelt, um zur Gestaltung einer lebenswerten Zukunft beizutragen. „Nachhaltigkeit“ wird als „regulative Idee“ verstanden. Es werden unterschiedliche Konzepte mehrerer Fakultäten einbezogen, gemeinsam in Bezug auf theoretische, methodische und gesellschaftspraktische Aspekte reflektiert und anhand von Praxisfeldern weiterentwickelt. Die unterschiedliche disziplinäre Herkunft der Studierenden und des Lehrendenteams ist eine bereichernde Erfahrung, da ein offener Diskurs über verschiedene wissenschaftliche Paradigmen angeregt wird und somit ein kritisches Lernen und Kennenlernen von Dilemmata möglich ist. Durch Reflexions- und Diskursprozesse soll eine Lerngemeinschaft entstehen.

Intended learning outcomes

This module course consists of 12 ECTS points (6 ECTS in the winter term, 6 ECTS in the summer term) and will be held for two terms in three courses.

SD Part I (6 ECTS, winter term):
You will keep a study diary with reflexions about the course materials and write an essay developing a research question for the following term.

SD Part II & III (4 & 2 ECTS, summer term):
Start a small research project and develop your answers according to usability in your practical field. In Part III you will develop a sustainability (board)game.

The central topic will be “Sustainable mobility - more than (a) movement?”. Students can choose themes and questions that are of self-interest and relevance for the understanding of sustainability and sustainable development. The focus must be related to the central topic though.

Course content

The topic of this year's course is "Sustainable mobility - more than (a) movement?". Mobility plays a persistently important role in our lives and is significantly responsible for global energy consumption and Co2 emissions. If you include availability, individuality, and, most recently in the Corona crisis, safety, it quickly becomes apparent that Zero Emission Mobility is not so easy to implement. There are many aspects to consider and weigh - we have a "wicked problem". In the lecture "Sustainability" we will take this topic into our own hands to see what measures are helpful and what knowledge is required to enable a smooth interaction of technology and society for a sustainable future.

Another more general part will be the discussion about sustainability as a "wicked problem": The idea of sustainable development is discussed from the point of view of different disciplines. The necessary theories, competencies and methods are taught in order to learn how to design and build our vision of (contribute to the creation of) a future worth living. "Sustainability" is understood as a "regulative idea". Different concepts and methods of several faculties of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt are included, jointly reflecting about theoretical, methodological and society related aspects and develop them further based on practical fields. The interdisciplinary setting of the students as well as the teaching team is leading to a discourse from different scientific viewpoints and will therefore be a great learning experience. You will develop a concrete idea for a research question and a deeper understanding of sustainability at the end of this course.
