Course content

As part of the M.A. Lehramt/English program, this course addresses the advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of the standards and concepts related to communicative language competences (linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic). This course will examine in detail the advanced stages of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with the aim of helping students assess and improve their own linguistic and communicative competences.

Students will design and complete advanced-level tasks in listening, reading, speaking, and writing, all of which should show an advanced mastery of grammar and vocabulary.

The first part of this course will be for students to plan appropriate assessments for themselves and peers to complete by the end of the course. Included in this planning will be a consideration of the student’s self-assessed current communicative language competences; based on this assessment, an achievable plan for improvement will be created.
