LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

Students will learn about translation theory and its history & relevant terminology relating to the field; be able to identify and analyze translation problems/errors (specifically between German and English); and be able to describe the translation process and the role of the translator.

Lehrmethodik

  • Lecture (synchronous and asynchronous lectures will take place if in-person teaching is not allowed)
  • In-class group discussion
  • Moodle-based assignments/discussion
  • Sample practice translation tasks

Recordings or supplementary explanations will be made available as warranted. If need be, classes may take place online, which means you should have, at a minimum, a device with a stable internet connection, a microphone and headset, and (should it be needed) a camera. These will facilitate any eLearning sessions that may be needed in this course.

Erwartete Vorkenntnisse

Students are not expected to have any knowledge of translation for this course.

Literatur

All required reading and viewing materials will be provided on Moodle. If so desired, a reader of course texts can also be made available via the ÖH printing service (price of the reader TBA).

Prüfungsmethode/n

Moodle-based written examination based on readings, PowerPoint slides, and lectures.

Prüfungsinhalt/e

See course content. In general, students should be familiar with the theories, terminology, and persons discussed in the course.

The first sitting of the exam will take place in the last regularly scheduled class session. The second sitting will ideally take place in the exam week immediately following the end of the semester. The third (and last) sitting generally takes place at the end of the subsequent semester. The exact dates will be announced in class. Be sure to sign up on ZEUS for the sitting you prefer.

Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe

A passing grade of at least sixty percent of the material on the final examination is required to pass this course. This percentage may change marginally based on changes to exam questions/types/points. Students will be informed of this beforehand.
