Intendierte Lernergebnisse
The aim of this course is to provide basic insights into the historical development of the freedom of religion. Furthermore, the legal aspects of religion and its manifestations, with special emphasis to questions of religious practice in the employment context shall be discussed. It will help students become more competent and sensitive as to legal aspects of religious issues in their own lives as well as those of other’s.

Lecturing combined with group activities (at least two units), discussions, task oriented exercises (e.g. role plays) and students‘ presentations
Inhalt/e
- historical development of the freedom of religion, and its current functions in society, politics and law; labour law regulations in the Thora and the Bible
- fundamental rights - with a focus on the freedom of religion and constitutional aspects of faith
- basic legal aspects of employment, and its connection with religious practice, and the principles of equal treatment
- discrimination of employees because of faith, or manifestations of faith (e.g. dismissal due to religious clothing, or divorce, denial of promotion because of being a catholic; prayers outside regular breaks etc)
- entitlement to additional rights such as (more) holidays, rooms for prayers, specific food in the staff canteen
