Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

We shall discuss the concept of truth in science, in everday life and its role in philosophical argumentation.  At best our idea of truth will have changed at the end of the seminar, and if not, you will be better in arguing for your own position.

Teaching methodology

The seminar will be in English only. No need to be afraid if your English is not perfect, mine is not either. But we only speak English in the seminar. During the first day I shall present an overview and discuss with you the concept of truth and the role truth plays in philosophy, in science and in everyday life.

Course content

You will need to write a seminar paper of 5 - 8 pages and present this paper at the second date in January. I shall give you advice on our first meeting in November. But without the presentation of the paper in person in January you cannot pass the seminar.

Prior knowledge expected

Sufficient knowledge of English to follow a seminar which is in English only. Plus sufficient knowledge to write an English seminar paper. And that you are a student of philosophy.

Literature

I shall give you advice on how to research for literature plus present some books at our session in December.

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.
