Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

Understanding of a book to be read and discussed jointly, with high relevance for doctoral studies in an environment of economics and business studies.

Presentation and critical discussion of individual doctoral research projects.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Discussion and presentation in the format of a working workshop: „Work in progress“ studies shall be presented and discussed in relation to methods employed, literature, theoretical conception.

Additionally, reading of a book, which has to be done by all participants.

Course content

The concrete reading list will be given within the first session of the seminar, corresponding to the current preferences and competencies of registered students. Previous seminars dealt with the following books:

 Alex Preda: Information, Knowledge, and Economic Life. An Introduction to the Sociology of Markets, Oxford: Oxford University Press 2009 (Winter term 2015).

Patrick Aspers: Markets. Cambridge (UK): Polity Press 2011 (Summer term 2016).

Additionally, students will present their own doctoral projects, challenges and difficulties.
