Intendierte Lernergebnisse
On completion of this course, it is expected that students will have a better familiarity with the main psychological theories on economic decision making. Moreover, it is expected an increased capacity of understanding and critical analyses of scientific articles in the field of decision making and financial decision making.
Lehrmethodik
Audio-visual presentation with the support ofpsychological research articles.
Inhalt/e
Financial decision making is a branch of cognitive psychology that studies how people make choices when money is involved. We make economics decisions every day. Knowing how and why we decide regarding our economic endeavors is essential because, as Daniel Kahneman wrote in the book Well-being: Foundations of hedonic psychology (1999), “Money does not buy you happiness, but lack of money certainly buys you misery.”
During this class, you will be introduced to the general concept of cognitive psychology and decision making. Moreover, you will learn about the main psychological theories of the field, that will be explained and demonstrated using several practical and applied examples.
The list of content that will be explained in this class are the following:
- Introduction of cognitive psychology and decision making.
- The expected utility theory and rational axioms.
- The dual-process theory
- Risk perception
- The prospect theory
- Heuristics
- Nudges
