LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

Students will familiarze themselves with gender and sexuality as socially constructed and discursively performed identity markesr and will learn to critically assess the omnipresence of gendered discourses in our society.  They will learn methods to analyze and critically discuss gendered practices in various types of discourse as well as discourses of heteronormativity and alternative forms of sexuality.

- theoretical input

- critical reading and discussion of texts 

- working with data 

- group work in break out sessions 

- oral online presentation 

- seminar paper (4,000 to 5,000 words) including empiral part


Inhalt/e

- development of  discourse, gender and sexuality research

- methodological approaches to studying discourse, gender and sexuality 

- critical discussion of gendered discourses and dicourses of heteronormativity etc.

- insights into current research 

Erwartete Vorkenntnisse

Students must be familar with basic linguistic concepts such as discourse, identity etc. and must be willing to engage in critical thinking and critical discussions on issues related to gender and sexuality. Open-mindedness is welcome. 

Literatur

Course bibliography will be provided during the first session; literature will be available via Moodle.

Students are also invited to work with their own literature. 

 

Prüfungsinformationen

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Prüfungsmethode/n

Students are required to hold an oral presentation, to write a seminar paper (details to be explained on the seminar accompanying syllabus) and actively participate (i.e. read all the required literature, participate in discussions) in the seminar. 

Prüfungsinhalt/e

Thematic scope of both, oral presentation and seminar paper, are available on the syllabus. 

Based on the seminar program, students register for broad topics, whose specification will be discussed with me.  Students are invited to make suggestions and come up with relevant literature

Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe

oral presentation: 

- adequate academic presentation and discussion of the topic

written term paper:

 - seminar paper meets formal requirement (layout, ToC, language, structure, references & referencing, length) and is submitted on time

- adequate academic presentation (both formally and language-wise) and discussion of the topic

- sufficient use of appropriate and up-to-date literature

active participation in class

- students must read all the required prep.reading

- participate in class
