Intendierte Lernergebnisse
At the end of the course, the students should be able to
- analyze fashion discourse and gendered discourses therein;
- apply linguistic methods to analysis of fashion discourse;
- find their research interest in a narrower topic within fashion discourse

- preparatory home/class reading + brief assignments;
-final research presentations and brief reports.

- Introduction: Fashion discourse and theories of fashion.
- At the crossroad of fashion discourse and gender studies: Fashioning of the (female) body.
- Fashion in the digital era (a): Fashion magazines go online. Researching their discourse.
- Fashion in the digital era (b): Fashion explores new media. Researching Instagram.
- Discourses of femininity in fashion: Who is a fashionista.
- Fashion of ‘others’: Representing non-European fashion and identity.
- Fashion and consumerism: Marketing, advertisement, and what linguistics has to do with it.
- New developments: Covid-19 discourse and new accessories.
- Ethical fashion: Framing sustainability ad ethical choices.
- Luxury fashion: How its framing is different from mass-market fashion.
