Intended learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to gain knowledge in the analysis and interpretation of literary texts and will specialize on fiction, poetry and drama. This literary expertise is crucial for further literary seminars and is also the foundation for LITERARY STUDIES 2.

The first attendance on October 14th is mandatory, thus, only students who will attend the first session will be accepted.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Group discussions
Presentations (each participant has to give a 15 min. presentation on a literary topic)
1 mid-term exam, 1 final exam
3 written assignments (each 700 words; incl. academic layout/bibliography/no plagiarism!)

Course content

This introductory course is going to cover three important aspects in literature: 1) fiction 2) poetry 3) drama.

The course will provide an overview of these three topics which are relevant for the further studies of English.
