Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

Gain a deeper understanding of the methods presented in the lecture and applying the knowledge to practical tasks by performing some calculations.

Teaching methodology

Based on the material given in the lecture 'Mobile Communications', students get exercises to solve at home. The results are presented and discussed in class. At least once per semester each student has to present the solutions of one exercise sheet in class. The exercises are mandatory to solve and they must be handed in before the class starts. Collaborations on the exercises are allowed but every student has to hand in his own solution. The physical presence in the class is mandatory. Homework exercises can be downloaded, and handed in via Moodle. The correct solutions to the exercises are presented during class and will not be published.

Course content

This exercise course aims to be a supplement to the lecture 700.200 Mobile Communications by Prof. Bettstetter. More information can be found here: bettstetter.com/teaching/mws/.

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

The grading of this exercise course is based on:

  • The solutions of the task sheets that are handed in via Moodle
  • The presentation of the solutions in class

Examination topic(s)

  • Antennas
  • Radio propagation
  • Diversity
  • Signals
  • Channel coding
  • Modulation
  • Multiple access and cellular concept
  • Medium access control (MAC) protocols

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

The students have to show that they are able to apply the theoretical knowledge from the lecture to solve calculations. Furthermore, the ability to explain the solutions in a concise way is an important criterium for the evaluation of students. The grade will be based on the students'  performance therein.

For further details, refer to the first course unit or to Moodle (once you are enrolled in the class).
