Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
The students are able to read and understand scientific papers.
The students are able to carefully explain and discuss core findings as well as details in a didactically meaningful way.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Phase 1: Under the supervision of the respective professor each student reads scientific papers and works them out carefully.
Phase 2: In small groups of peers each student prepares a presentation about the read papers, the target audience for which are the other students in the seminar.
In this phase each student faces two roles: as presenter of their own topic and as peer for another presenter.
Phase 3: Each student presents their papers in class. The respective peer discusses the presentation.
Course content
There will be topics mainly in Statistics (supervised by G. Kastner) and topics in Stochastic Processes (supervised by M. Szölgyenyi).
Prior knowledge expected
Knowledge in statistics and stochastic processes.
Literature
Scientific papers.
Examination information
Modified examination information (exceptional COVID-19 provisions)
A switch to an online setting during the semester is possible.
Examination methodology
Evaluation of final presentation and peer discussion.
Examination topic(s)
The own topic, the peer's topic, and the active participation in the seminar.
