Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
This course aims to structure the scientific process of PhD students from the development of a research question to publication, including research work, presentation and writing. It also addresses the issue of preparing a research proposal for funding purposes, and the insertion of the researcher into a scientific community. The course alternates more masterful lectures with discussions and practice exercises. The course is expected to be very much an interactive exchange with the participants.
Having followed this course, students will have improved their capacity in:
- Designing research;
- Writing scientifically;
- Publishing in international peer-reviewed journals.
They will be offered to acquire important knowledge about:
- Opportunity cost in research activity;
- Targeting;
- Professional and scientific medias;
- Reviewing processes.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Lectures; debates; application exercises.
Course content
Scientific research: Designing; Researching and reporting; Reporting versus writing; Writing; Editing; Networking; Presenting; Publishing; Making the most of the review process; Writing a research proposal for funding.
Prior knowledge expected
Having completed, or be about to have completed, successfully a university master degree.

- Slideshows will be made available on the Moodle website developed for this course one week before the course starts.
- A reading list for students wishing to deepen one topic or another will also be provided.
