Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

This course focuses on topics related to English-language teaching in specific contexts. Students will be introduced to issues and principles of teaching English as an international language, EFL and intercultural communication, English for specific purposes, English-medium instruction and CLIL. The course deals with the theoretical and pedagogical aspects of these specific areas of ELT, and develops practical skills through hands-on activities and microteaching sessions.




Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Students will be able to:

  1. Identify the key principles of (teaching) EIL, ESP, ICC and CLIL
  2. Analyze the benefits and challenges of EMI and CLIL
  3. Design a lesson plan 
  4. Integrate the principles of these specific areas of ELT into teaching (microetaching)
  5. Teach a microteaching session
  6. Reflect on their teaching
  7. Provide peer feedback

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

Assessment (maximum 100 pts.)


  • Microteaching   (putting theory into practice)         40 points
    • Write a short lesson plan - 10 pts.
    • Prepare a 20 min. microteaching activity and teach the activity to your peers - 25 pts.
    • Reflect on your teaching - 5 pts.
    • Give peer feedback using the rubric provided


  • CLIL lesson plan (student project)                              30 points


  • Final exam (analysis and synthesis)                           30 points
