LV-Beschreibung
Intendierte Lernergebnisse
After successful completion of the course, students will know:
- to apply system theory concepts like resilience, self-organization, hierarchy, non-linearity, non-existing boundaries, layers of limits, delays and bounded rationality,
- to understand interdisciplinary accumulation problems from a system theory approach,
- to design dynamic systems and apply a system dynamic modelling approach.
Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools
Lectures start with a description of the objectives of the day and introduction to the different topics. Different activities are planned for each day like: Writing; Presenting; Playing games (day 1); Computer modelling; Working in groups (outside University); Working individually; Writing on free choice topics; Film watching; Discussions
Inhalt/e
The aim of the course is to introduce students from different disciplines a new scientific method so-called system theory to enable them to argue and understand systems thinking and to model simple dynamic systems.
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
Good level of English is required (reading, writing, oral expression).
Literatur
Thinking in systems a primer by Donella Meadows (2008) (in the library but it is recommended to buy it for future readings).
Systems science and modeling for ecological economics by Alexey Voinov (2008). The lecturer will provide some information from the book in class.
To prepare the proposal, please, read Academic writing by Felicitas Macgilshrist in Schoningh UTB (2014).
Other material like course data, scientific articles, videos, etc will be given in Moodle.
