Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

To get to know the most important methodologies used in aquatic and terrestrial ecohydrology: Agricultural and forest landscape water distribution; hydromorphology; riparian restoration; and river health.

To solve case studies together with the lecturers.

To exercise analytical thinking. 

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

The theoretical knowledge is presented in the 320.052.

Guidance to solve case studies related to the different topics of the proseminar.

Discussions in class guided by the lecturer.

Feedbacks are given by the lecturer to the groups.

Oral presentations with handouts in English. Topics of the oral presentations need to be agreed with the lecturer.

All the groups learn all the methods explained in class with the guidance of the lecturer and the oral presentations by the groups.


Course content

  • Methods used to measure and model evaporation, water interception and throughfall in forest ecosystems
  • Methods used to measure ecohydrological aspects within the riparian zone (assessment of river restoration)           
  • Methods used to measure the hydromorpholical status
  • Methods used to measure ecological river status

Prior knowledge expected

Good level of English.

B1, B2, B3.

Literature is given in class by the lecturer.

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

Portfolio consists on: oral presentations (40%),  written test (50%).

Active individual participation (10%).


Examination topic(s)

All the methods explained in class are part of the test. 



Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

Oral presentations need to cover the whole spectrum of the topic in the agreed time. 

Active individual participation during discussions and feedbacks.

The test needs to be positive. 50% of the points needs to be achieved to pass the proseminar.
