Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

The goal of this seminar is to become familiar with already well-established as well as new constructs and measures in the domain of health and family research. Students will learn how to critically reflect on different measurement approaches and be aware of their advantages and disadvantages.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Theoretical and methodological input, discussions, exercises

Course content

Students will be introduced to theoretical and methodological concepts of measures in Health Psychology and Family Psychology. During this course students will learn about constructs and measures related to:

  • parenting (dysfunctional parenting/positive parenting)
  • couple functioning, intimate partner violence
  • parental burnout/ parental stress
  • anxiety, depression and stress
  • health anxiety in general
  • health anxiety related to COVID-19
  • online health information seeking
  • ...



Prior knowledge expected

Expected prior knowledge on basic statistics and psychometrics (i.e. Test theory). Interest in family and health research.
