Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

This course outlines the importance of cultural differences in project management and is designed to improve the intercultural competencies of professionals working on projects in multilingual and multicultural contexts, e.g. international projects, global media, etc.

  • The main objectives are to enhance competence for dealing with cultural diversity and to appreciate the advantages of a multicultural team. 
  • To develop skills such as proactive communication, meeting management in intercultural teams and conflict resolution.
  • To learn about trust as a prerequisite for leveraging cultural differences and maximising the potential of a multicultural team.

Framework and Tool Kit approach 

Experiential Learning – an opportunity to apply the learnt skills in intercultural simulations 

The learning focus is not narrowed by a culture-specific approach, but rather on raising cultural and linguistic awareness in a broader context.

Good to Know: Minimum Theory! Emphasis is upon applying the concepts learned to become more effective in solving professional challenges of effective global communication.

Course content

Project Manager as an intercultural facilitator

Globalisation has catapulted multi-ethnic and intercultural relationships to the top of the agenda in the contemporary context of managing international project teams. To ensure success in a challenging economic scenario, the International Project Manager has to play the role of intercultural facilitator. 

  • Introduction of an intercultural framework to provide insight into how cross-cultural issues manifest at work. 
  • Key Elements of intercultural management such as leading and working with culturally diverse teams, conflict management, team development and coping with multilingual workplaces. 
  • Real Life anecdotes/experiences.
  •  The intercultural issues will be the undercutting theme in every learning workshop / module.

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

The learning process as well as the evaluation is guided by participatory conceptualisation and you are expected to apply the knowledge acquired to analyse real life situations and explore creative solutions. 

Evaluation presentation followed by interactive Q&A.
