Inhalt/e
Canada is oftentimes eclipsed by or even tacitly assumed to be culturally, socially, and politically the same as the United States south of its borders by global audiences, and while the domination of and colonisation by its overpowering neighbour is certainly an ever increasing fact of Canadian life, there are still specifically Canadian perspectives that would irritate US-American cultural sensibilities. One aspect that is frequently remarked upon on both sides of the border is the Canadian approach to the body, sexuality, and desire, inherently connected to questions of gender performances and identities. In this seminar, we will explore possible origins of this divergence, theoretical perspectives on how they function, as well as selected textual examples from media ranging from literature, to film, and videogames.
Literatur
All relevant literature will be made available on Moodle.
Students are expected to own at least a copy of the text they are presenting.
