Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the students should be able to

-       analyze the structure of words;

-       identify parts of sentence and explain their relations;

-       apply their knowledge of morphology and syntax in individual projects.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

(Zoom) lecture, tasks and discussions, presentations, short proseminar papers

Course content

This seminar consists of two large building blocks of grammar: morphology and syntax. It will facilitate students’ understanding of how word formation and sentence structure work in English and other languages.Special emphases will be placed on approaching morphology and syntax from different angles and learning how to apply this knowledge in specific research tasks.

Topics:

-      Morphology and generativegrammar.

-      Words and word formation.

-      Parallels between syntax andmorphology.

-      Syntax: generative andfunctional grammar approaches.

-      Sentence structure.

-      Clause and phrase structure. 

-      Morphology and syntax:application of the theoretical knowledge.
