Online attendance (via Microsoft Teams) at the kick-off session on the 1st of March (6pm) is compulsory, as the basics of the course will be presented, and important administrational “stuff” will be tackled. Students can register for the course up until 23:59pm on the 28th of Feb. 

So please download the Teams App to your PCs, laptops, smartphones etc if you are not already using the Teams App...

The aim of this course is to provide students with an overview of various forms of prose, poetry and drama, as well as introducing students to the notion of text analysis. Students will become familiar with terminology and the historical development of storytelling and English literature.

We shall also become dab hands using the tools to interpret and analyze texts. Students will also be given a forum in which to develop their presentation skills, as each student will present a 15min Powerpoint on relevant literary terms.

Please be aware that I will often use the full 2hrs from to accommodate technical issues, presentations and workshops...

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

This will primarily be an online course ( at least until Easter), where we will meet online via Teams on Monday evenings at 6pm. I shall create a Teams account once I have the complete participant list. (Registration for this course is possible until 28th Feb, 23:59). On the morning of the 1st of March, I will then set up a Teams account, for which I will need your email address, so please check and make sure the email address listed in your uni details is correct

I will present a PowerPoint slideshow each week focusing on different aspects of Literary Studies; e.g. poetry, drama, prose, analysis, academic citation, literary theory, Freytag’s pyramid etc.,.

Active participation will be expected and greatly appreciated, so please have a PC/Mac/smartphone/tablet... with a functioning camera and microphone.

I shall often give students small tasks during sessions and as home assignments to complete and hand in (per email) before the following session.

Inhalt/e

We shall focus on poetry, prose and drama on this course. We shall adress the notion of literary theory and we will alalyse some texts.

We shall ask some difficult questions: for example:  "what is literature?" Please be ready to attempt to answer this question at our opening session!!!!

Please Download Microsoft Teams to your PC, Phone etc, to be able to join us online.

There is no previous knowledge required, however students may wish to become familiar with some literary terms before the course begins.. see the "literature" list below...
