Inhalt/e
The United States experienced massive social, political, and cultural upheaval and transformation during the 1960s. This course explores the causes, emergences, and effects of this remarkable era. Traditions burned and high and low cultural divides collapsed as new modes of expression and experience erupted from their ashes. Considering theories of culture, subjectivity, identity, aesthetics, consumerism, and ideology from a range of disciplines, we will explore dissident phenomena, from the Beats, folk music, Merry Pranksters, Hells Angels, civil rights and antiwar activism, rock 'n' roll, sexual revolution, pop art, psychedelic drugs, etc., as a means by which to comprehend this radical decade in American history. And, to do this, we will compare these movements to what is going on the United States today, from Alt-Right and QAnon to Black Lives Matter and Antifa.
