Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

After completion of this seminar students will be able:

  • to use different sources to search for relevant related work
  • to create the structure of a scientific text, such as an article and a thesis
  • to explain the relevant concepts and use guidelines for writing a scientific text, such as the title, abstract, introduction, approach, evaluation, discussion, and conclusions.
  • to explain the relevant concepts and use guidelines for creating charts, figures, and tables
  • to explain the relevant concepts and use guidelines for citing related work

Course content

Disseminating ideas and research results to the research community and the public is an important part of the job of a scientist. In this seminar you will learn and practice how to write a scientific text. This includes practices and guidelines on how to find relevant material and related work, how to structure, write, and stepwise refine the text.

Topics include

  • Finding relevant related work
  • Reading scientific articles related to computer science
  • Structuring a scientific text (article, thesis)
  • Writing and revising the text
  • Creating charts, figures, and tables
  • Referencing relevant material
