Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
This course will provide students with knowledge about individual and societal bilingualism.
Students will be able to:
- understand and critically discuss different definitions of bilingualism
- understand how bilinguals learn and use their languages in different situations
- understand and discuss basic issues of language planning and language policy that can affect bilinguals and bilingualism
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
The course will be held online weekly, in regular sessions.
Students will have to:
- actively participate in class discussions/activities
- prepare and present a research (in groups)
- write a final paper on a selected topic
The language of instruction will be English, but other languages spoken by the students and listed above can be used.
Course content
Definitions of bilingualism; individual bilingualism; societal bilingualism; language maintenance and shift; representative case studies; language attitudes; language ideology; language policies and globalization (status planning, corpus planning, acquisition planning).

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.
