Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

This course is in parallel to the main lecture and covers most of its topics. By the end of the course the student will acquire different skills and methodologies to solve simple problems related to signal processing and communication systems.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Recap of what has been taught in the lecture. Different assignments to be solved at home and handed in before the exam.

Course content

Basics of the theory of signals:

  • Definition and properties of a signal. Signal transformations. Most common signals
  • Fourier series and Fourier transform
  • Convolution
  • Unified theory of signals

Basics of communications:

  • Structure of a communication system
  • Basic analog transmission schemes (DSB, SSB, AM, FM)

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

  • Assignments 
  • Written test 
  • Final oral interview if needed.

Examination topic(s)

Assignments are part of the exam. They will be given throughout the course based on the exercises and material presented during the course. Moreover, they have to be handed in before the final written exam.

Written exam will consist of only exercises related to the topics discussed. 

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

Assignment grade = A, it will count as 30% of final mark
Written grade = W, it will count as 70% of final mark

Final grade = 0.7*W + 0.3*A
