Prior knowledge expected

Sufficient prior economics knowledge, at least to the extent of the Introduction to Economics StEOP lecture, is definitely expedient.

Being familiar with the contents of Microeconomics VC makes it a lot easier.

And you would certainly not be the worse off when remembering the material covered in Methodology I: Mathematics and/or Methodology II: Statistics.

Literature

O. Blanchard (2017), Macroeconomics, Global Edition, 7th ed, Pearson.
O. Blanchard (2017), Macroeconomics, 7th ed, Pearson, may also be used, as these two books coincide with the exception of the introduction and first chapter.

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Modified examination information (exceptional COVID-19 provisions)

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the mid-term exam relating to the practice sessions has been cancelled. Instead, the final exam will cover all the topics and be awarded a maximum of 30 (instead of 15) points. Furthermore, the exam will not take place at the university but the solutions to the exam exercises will have to be uploaded to moodle from the distance in analogy to the weekly exercise sheets but within a shorter given time slot. For the exact details see the description in moodle and the corresponding information mail(s) sent out in due time.

The multiple choice online exams on the lectures will be held as planned.

Examination methodology

Lecutres: multiple choice online exam - 90 minutes time for 15 questions with 4 answers each. Of the possible maximal 60 points you must reach at least 70% = 42 points to get a positive grade.

Practice sessions: exercises (max 30 points - 18 to be positive) and two exams (a mid-term and a final exam;  max 30 points - 15 to be positive); active participation in the discussion.

The two parts – lectures and practice sessions – contribute 50% each to the total grade.

Please note that both the successful completion of the practice sessions and the positive result from the multiple choice exam related to the lectures are necessary in order to complete the Macroeconomics VC successfully. If only one of the two parts is not completed successfully Macroeconomics VC needs to be repeated altogether.

See description in Moodle for details, especiall regarding the practice sessions.

Examination topic(s)

The exam is based on the actual contents discussed in the lecture, the list in ZEUS is, therefore, purely indicative.

The contents discussed may go beyond the material contained in the book given below, additional material may be provided and may possibly deviate from the book.

There is, of course, also the possibility that not all chapters indicated will be discussed and would, therefore, not be relevant for the exam.

Also, of course, more chapters than indicated at the outset may be discussed and will in
this case be relevant for the exam.
