Title: Pedagogies of Care
Description:

In this contribution, I introduce bell hooks feminist and antiracist pedagogical work that builds on care and love. Bell hooks who grew up during racial segregation in the United States developed a pedagogy build on resistance, hope, freedom and care. For her the presence and voice of everyone in the classroom is crucial and must be acknowledged. She encourages teachers and students to show up as their full and vulnerable selves and share their stories in the classroom. The classroom is an open learning community that is not build on individual competition but collective care for each other. Viewing the class as this intimate and relational space allows for individual and collective empowerment. Love is essential for teaching and highlights the potential of the affective and embodied dimension of teaching, learning and being. Bell hooks love ethic, as a pedagogical approach will be the focus of this lecture.
