The lecture examines discoures associated with images showing the refugees boat in the last two decades in Europe, gives insight into the icolonolgy of this motif and shows how such images are used to disseminate both pro- and anti-migration discourses.”The lecture presents glimpses into an iconology of the boat with refugees. The second aim is to qualitatively examine discourses associated with such images in the last two decades in Europe. It will be shown that the motif of the boat with refugees is used both as a symbol of humanity as a whole and as a representation of the other, placed at the frontiers of humanity.
