Titel: Interference Dynamics in Wireless Networks
Beschreibung: Interference is a key limiting factor on the performance of wireless networks. It has great influence on the behavior of many protocols that apply retransmission and relaying techniques to counteract packet losses. Especially the dynamics of interference, i.e. its dependence over space and time, is a crucial parameter when evaluating the performance of such protocols. As a simple example one might consider retransmission protocols: Let us assume that interference is highly correlated. Then, if one transmission fails due to interference, the retransmission is likely to fail also. This means that traditional retransmission protocols perform badly in scenarios having high interference correlation. Despite its importance interference dynamics is still an underinvestigated field and many aspects of it are still not fully understood. Just recently, some results were published that suggest that interference might be, depending on the scenario, highly correlated over time and space. My presentation will highlight some of these results as well as look at some open issues within this area.
